KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM MANEUVER HOW TO
How To Mod Kerbal Space Programįrom the beginning, KSP had an active modding community.
KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM MANEUVER MODS
There’s a mod for every need, and we’ve tried to pull together a collection of top mods that suite a range of these requests.Īt the time of writing the latest patch is version 1.12 – make sure you check the compatibility of your favourite mods. Some of you may not actually like being a literal rocket scientist and need some utility mods to make the experience easier. Some of you may just want more parts to build your rockets. There are a range of needs when it comes to modding Kerbal Space Program. Realistic physics, particularly when it comes to issues of literal rocket science and transfer orbits, thrust/weight ratios, are going to become your close and hated friends. In KSP (and upcoming sequel Kerbal Space Program 2), you must assemble all of the craft and machines, plan out the missions, and you even do the piloting while pushing ever further into the unknown. While the base game is in a great state after the final 1.12 update, the Kerbal Space Program mod scene represents some of the most creative community creations around, and help make everything that much better.
It’s is a game about going to space, you might even call it a space game, where you plan, design, and fly the bold explorers of Planet Kerbin up towards the final (and only) frontier. The fourth tutorial actually puts you in a rocket that is already in orbit and shows you how to get to the moon.KSP mods are essential for enjoying Kerbal Space Program. The built-in interactive tutorials are awesome: they appear on the first screen before you start game, and give “you try it” examples of everything from building and launching rockets to getting to the “Mün.” They teach about “apoapis” (highest point of your path) and “periapsis” (lowest). (In the example shown here, they say you’ll have to start the rocket burn in 16 seconds, and have to change your speed 843.2 m/s, with Estimated Burn lasting 1 day(!) and 1 hour.) Tutorial There is a very handy tool: “Make Maneuver” on your path ahead of you: you can pull different angles and see the resulting path, and you’ll get a blue guide in the navigation ball and a note about how soon you should burn rocket and how much you should burn. (Atmosphere tapers off to about 70,000 m, so an orbit at 100,000 m is great and will last forever.) To get orbit you’ll need 2,200 m/s velocity! Might want to tip over 45° at that point and eventually fly flat (horizontal) because the ground will drop out beneath you as you go past the “edge” of the planet.

Above 10,000 meters you can go full throttle without wasting fuel from pushing air out of the way. In thick atmosphere (below 10,000 meters) keep speed below 200 m/s and fly straight up. įlight Tips Flying from Kerbin (“Earth”): Note: the “Nav Ball” has some important icons: you, “prograde” (forward), and “retrograde” (backward). There is speedometer on top of the navigation ball. ( I K J L supposedly make the rocket move up/down/left/right/ without tilting.)Īltimeter is at top of screen and has orange needle to show whether you’re going up or down.

“ +” (plus) and “ -” (minus) zoom the camera.Ī S W D let you steer the rocket and kerbal’s jet packs (the latter are turned on with “ R”, as is “RCS” control mini-rockets which use special mono fuel). “ C” switches between “C”ockpit view and not.ĪRROW keys move the camera around. “ M" switches between regular (look at rocket) view and “Map” view. ” (period) speeds up time, “ ,” (comma) slows down time. “ R” turns on RCS rocket steering which is good for stabilizing and for steering.ĮSC key lets you quit a flight and restart it or go back to vehicle assembly building. Have to turn SAS temporarily off again to steer and change direction. Throttle: left SHIFT = throttle up, left CONTROL= throttle down, “ x”= throttle off.
